Matthew Herrmann, MD
Internal Medicine
AAHIV SPECIALIST
Matthew H. Herrmann, MD, AAHIVS, is the Chief Medical & Research Officer and Managing Director of Pacific Oaks Medical Group. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases and specializes in HIV medicine, HIV prevention, LGBTQ+ health, men’s health, hormone replacement therapy, sexual health, travel medicine, and long-acting therapies for the treatment and prevention of HIV.
Dr. Herrmann has dedicated his career to HIV and LGBTQ+ medicine because he believes few areas of healthcare combine science, innovation, advocacy, and human connection so powerfully. He believes a cure for HIV is possible within his lifetime and is committed to contributing to that future through both clinical care and research.
Dr. Herrmann completed his postgraduate medical training in Los Angeles, including his Internal Medicine residency at White Memorial Medical Center and fellowship in Infectious Diseases at Harbor–UCLA Medical Center. His medical training has also taken him around the world. In Malawi, he cared for people living with HIV and other infectious diseases in a resource-limited setting, an experience that profoundly influenced his approach to medicine. He has also participated in global health work in rural Guatemala and has lived and studied in Mexico, Australia, St. Maarten, and London.
Prior to joining Pacific Oaks, Dr. Herrmann served as Medical Director of AIDS Healthcare Foundation’s Westside Clinic in Beverly Hills, where he helped lead one of the busiest and most respected HIV clinics in the Los Angeles. During his tenure, he helped implement and scale one of the organization’s largest long-acting injectable programs for HIV treatment and prevention and provided clinical and operational leadership during the renovation and relocation of the Westside Clinic.
At Pacific Oaks, Dr. Herrmann brings together his interests in medicine, research, innovation, and patient experience. In addition to caring for patients, he provides medical leadership for the clinical and research programs and works to expand access to emerging therapies and clinical trials through partnerships with leading pharmaceutical organizations.
As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, Dr. Herrmann understands the importance of receiving care in an environment where patients feel seen, respected, and comfortable being themselves. He believes exceptional healthcare should go beyond treating disease: it should promote prevention, wellness, longevity, and the ability to live a healthy and fulfilling life.
His philosophy is equally focused on the patient experience. Dr. Herrmann believes world-class medicine should be paired with world-class hospitality—creating an environment where every patient feels welcomed, valued, and genuinely cared for from their first interaction with Pacific Oaks through every stage of their care.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Herrmann is an avid traveler who has visited nearly 70 countries and an advanced SCUBA diver who has explored dive sites around the world. These experiences have shaped his curiosity, cultural awareness, and belief that understanding a patient as a person is fundamental to providing excellent care. He speaks English and Spanish and is conversational in French.
Dr. Herrmann is proud to help lead the next chapter of Pacific Oaks Medical Group, building upon its longstanding legacy in HIV and LGBTQ+ healthcare while advancing a new model that integrates exceptional medicine, clinical research, innovation, wellness, and hospitality. His vision is for Pacific Oaks to become the premier LGBTQ+ medical center in Los Angeles and a nationally recognized destination for LGBTQ+ healthcare and research.
